THE VILLAGE

The Montacute was derived from Mons Acutus, the conical hill, now named St. Michael's Hill, above the village.
The settlement at Montacute was known as Logworebeorh in the 7th Century. It was named Montacute by the Normans.

The Old Vicarage opposite the Church in 1999 and the same house in 1904 when it was occupied by my Great Great Uncle Herbert Hann, who was the Manager of the Ham Hill Stone Company who had a quarry on Ham Hill. The 1904 view must have been taken from the Church Tower
