ROGER JACKSON'S
DORSET AND SOMERSET ANCESTORS

My Great Great Grandparents ISAAC and
SUSANNA GALE (née Gale) at POWERSTOCK, Dorset, in 1903. Their daughter EMMA, one of
13 children, moved to London and married Thomas William Howard
in 1879. Their daughter Harriet Annie Howard was the mother of
my father A.J. Jackson

My Great Grandparents GILBERT
and MATILDA HANN (née Bishop). Both were born at MONTACUTE, SOMERSET
in 1840. They moved to London along with other members of their
families in the 1860s. Gilbert and Matilda's son Claud William
Hann married Margaretta Frances Milnes at Wandsworth in 1902 and
their sixth child was my mother Marjorie.

At Montacute in the 19th century
and in the first years of the 20th century both the Hann and Bishop
families were involved in the running of the three stone quarries
on Ham Hill. The above picture shows my great great uncle William
Bishop at his quarry on Ham Hill circa 1903. At this time William
Bishop was living at Putney in South West London where he was
a leading builder. Both William Bishop and Gilbert Hann, who was
also a builder in the area, used some Ham Stone in their constructions.
